Power Theory – Interview –
Interview
Hello , First of all I’d like you to fill us in on what’s happening in the Power theory at the moment ?
Currently we are in preparation for the Wacken USA Metal Battle Final Show on May 2017 on NYC, after being chosen as the winner in the Wacken Philadelphia Semi Finals along with Corpse Hoarder. Also we are in full pre-production mode for a new album to be recorded this year.
Can you briefly introduce your band and who you are ?
Rob Ballinger – Guitar, backing Vocals
Alan D’Angelo- Bass, Backing Vocals
Jeff Rose – Lead Vocals
Johnny Sasso – Drums
Carlos Alvarez- Lead Guitar, prouder, engineer…….
Power Theory was born in usa in 2007 could you please give the bands history so far? how you formed ? I formed the band with former bassist and longtime friend Charlie Gallagher with a vision to play traditional metal, and the lineups has changed to better the band along the way, but the current core has been together for 4 years now. Pure Steel Records has given us distribution since 2011 for 3 full length albums, Out of the Ashes, Into the Fire 2011, An Axe to Grind 2012, and Driven By Fear 2015.
Why was the name ” Power Theory ” chosen as the bands name ? Well it was my way of twisting the phrase ” Tributes to the gods of Heavy Metal ” .
What are your influences ?
Priest, Maiden, Accept, Saxon, Sabbath and Dio .
What is your music background ?
I started playing the guitar at 10 years old .
Who writes the majority of your music or is it a whole band collaboration thing ?
I am the main writer musically and then Carlos helps me put it all together and pushes us to make it the best it can be .
What’s the most memorable show you guys have played and where are you scheduled to hit the stage in the near future ?
Everyone is memorable in its own special way but Philly Wacken Metal Battle Semi recently, we were tight ! Hard Summer Festival 2015 and 2016 in Falkenfels Germany and Rock On Fest 2016 in Budapest stand out amongst the best because of all the friends we’ve made !
How important are lyrics for the band? Who writes them ? What kinds of themes inspire you guys to write about ?
Very Important, it’s a combination of Alan, Jeff, and Myself. I personally don’t like meaningless lyrics and we like to write them to have some meaning or cross meanings for listeners. We try and take modern themes without typically overused Metal Cliche’s, some personal, some social, without forcing our options on someone.
What do you feel is the best & worst part about playing in a band ?
Well being onstage and performing with a band of brothers that has chemistry is the greatest high in the world, and what we don’t always like are unrealistic load-in times for shows when bands that are playing later have to wait around, but at the same time it gives us a chance to meet and hang out with the fans. So we don’t complain !
Are there any countries you’re interested in touring or performing in ? Why ?
Well Europe as we’ve only played festivals and scattered shows there and would like to tour, and also South America because the fans are crazy there as well.
Please tell us about your latest release ” Driven By Fear ” ?
Driven By Fear, is the bands Third and is our strongest yet in songwriting and production quality .
How do you think your music will progress in the future ?
The songs being worked on for our next release are even stronger and it’s been 4 years since Alan,Jeff, and I have been writing together. Our chemistry and formula has grown greatly.
What are the next steps for your band ?
We will work hard to prepare and win the Wacken Metal Battle USA Finals, and go to Wacken 2017, and start recording our next album over the summer.
Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there ?
Yes we just self released an EP on Bandcamp as a hold over for the fans until our new album comes out. It’s titles “Something Old, Something New, and Something Fucking Live from Europe” ! It has 2 reworked songs from our second Release “An Axe to Grind”, “Colossus 2016″and “Axe to Grind 2016”, a new single “Brace for Impact”, and 2 live tracks from European Shows on 2015, “Dark Eagle” and “Truth Shall Set You Free”, and a bonus alternate version of “Brace For Impact” featuring Hungarian guitarist Krisztian Lovreck. Here are the link to it and a video for “Brace For Impact”
