Mike :Â We’re doing great man !
Ok this is our first interview. So let us speak a bit about the band’s past. Who and when had the idea to form this band?
Mike :Â I formed this band towards the end of 2012 when I got stationed at Fort Benning GA, took me awhile to find other members but another Active soldier Chris (Danger as some know him) came along and started the base for what Dead Reckoning is today
What motivated you to form Dead reckoning ?
Mike : I had served several deployments in Iraq and been away from music for a few years and I wanted to play live again
Was it easy for you to find a line- up from the start ?
Mike : I never knew we would go as far as we have. We had several months of just me and Chris until we started finding new members. But the lineup we have today took us almost 4 years to get final with Curt only being with us about 6-8 months now
Can you tell us in few words which the main idea of each songs that you have included in your debut EP is ?
Mike : This album was wrote with our previous singer Steve. But luckily, we didn’t release anything yet and we were able to get Curt’s vocals on it. But we have started writing the next album after this aswell with Curt and man it is going to be amazing! Some of the best things any of us have written!!! The EP has 4 songs the first on it is Sinner it was one of the first songs we wrote with this lineup minus Curt of course. Really changed the feel of the band because it was also the first song without my other original member Chris on guitar with me. So, writing with no limitations just getting to play the riffs I dug really made this s
ong come together. World in Flames is the next track and it also was the last song we wrote. This song to us adds that more modern metal edge to us we wrote it kind of in the style of Trivium or something like that. Defiance is in my opinion our Thrash song every bit of it screams old Maiden or Megadeth to me which is what I love so why not. And finally, we got Don’t Turn Your Back which was the very first song we wrote in Dead Reckoning. Funny thing if you look on our YouTube you will notice this song is 10x’s faster than it used to be lol at one point I swear it was a 15-min long song lol. I always just describe us as Metal. I don’t label us any other direction because we don’t play just one feeling or one genre we want to hit them all. I’d say in this first album we probably hit 5 different metal genres and the next album we are writing we are trying to go an entire different direction but still keep our unique sound where the second you hear them you know who it is
Which are the things that inspired for the new album? Which do you consider as your influences?
Mike : For instance, as a guitarist I’m a huge Zakk Wylde nut and take my influence from him and other greats like Dimebag and you can see some of their stuff in my riffs but then you will see a lot of me in them because I didn’t copy anyone I made it the way I want them! Then look at Ryan the drummer he never once played metal before he met us. Now he follows Chris Adler from Lamb of God very well and man I swear he gets better and better every time we have a show. Brian is big into Cliff Burton and Geezer Butler and he can play that bass just like them it is amazing to watch. And Curt actually was our bass player at one point. This is the first time he ever sung and man he just kills it and I can’t wait to release to the world his lyrics in his style.
Can you tell us about GMA support ?
Mike : GMA is everything to us! When I met that amazing group of people I saw the brotherhood and the bond and I just had to be a part of it! From the very first time they saw us they instantly supported us and just welcomed us in. Amazing people!! And Nik and Dennis are the best and I’m proud to call them brothers !!!
