Battleroar – Interview –

Country: Greece

Genre: Epic Heavy / Power Metal

Interview with: Kostas Tzortzis

Interviewer: Speedskullcrusher

Hello, what’s up? Can you write a little introduction of Battleroar?

Hi! Well, after 24 years of existence and 5 full length albums, we are ready for our 6th album (probably next year) after long preparation throughout some difficult years.

Did the musicians of Battleroar play in other bands in the past? Did they record demos or maybe albums?

Yes. Most of them. They still play. Our singer is the main singer of Praying Mantis while he works with many other bands like Blind Guardian, Powerwolf, Ayreon and more. One guitarist (Zack) plays also on a band named Thelemite and generally all of us have worked with some other bands in the past.

It’s clear that Battleroar is influenced by the old school Heavy Metal and Power Metal of the late 80’s and early 90’s, especially bands out of Europe. What specific bands have been influential in shaping the sound of Battleroar?

It’s true that we’re influenced by bands from the 80s and 90s from USA but also Europe like Manilla Road, Omen, Heavy Load, Cirith Ungol, Manowar, Jag Panzer, Running Wild, Candlemass, Bathory and so many more.

“Codex Epicus” is your full recent length recording and it dates back to 2018. Are you still satisfied with the result?

There’s no point looking back and regret what’s already done so, we try to do the best possible for the moment and put our 100% into this. So, at the moment we were satisfied, and this is what truly matters to me.

Compared to the previous ones, I find the production of the recent album to be a bit more into Epic Metal, Well, it gives a more “oldschool” taste, which is cool. Was this only a matter of final mix, or you aimed to sound this way at the origin of the procreation process?

I guess, the whole atmosphere of an album is a combination of many things which come together and give the final result. Definitely though, when we are talking for the 5th album of a band then for sure, the result is pretentious and almost everything happens on purpose. So, it’s way more than just the production of an album.

Most of your releases have been released on physical formats, including the often-maligned formats of CD and DVDs. How important are physical releases to Battleroar ?

Well, we have many supporters that they are serious collectors of vinyl’s, CDs and stuff, as we, ourselves have been also in the past or even now. So, we consider really important to have our music on physical forms cause… this is what we like!

If you could see one of these bands live in their glory days, which would you choose? Manowar, Virgin Steele, Omen ?

I guess it would be Manowar.

Do you have plans to release a full length or new music any time soon?

Yes, the 6th album is almost ready, musically talking and hopefully it will be out next year.

Any International tour?

Nothing planned yet.
