First of all, I would like to welcome you to Acier Doux Metalzine. Could you introduce the band, provide a brief biography, and explain the reason behind your name, as well as your current lineup?
Thor: Thank you very much for the welcome and the space in your fanzine. The band currently consists of Jorge San Román and Johann Sebastián Interceptor on guitars, Sebastián Doldán on drums, Mariano Ramírez on bass, and Luis Thor on vocals. The band’s name comes from the car in MAD MAX, the last of the V8 INTERCEPTORS. We all love that film series, and we thought the name was appropriate for our proposal. The band was formed in late 2011 when Jorge suggested to me to put together a group of epic Heavy Metal in the style of US Metal. Johann joined immediately, as did the first bassist, Cristian Magarzo, who was playing with Jorge in TEMPANO at the time and with whom Johann and I had played in a previous band (QUEMANDO CROMO). In 2012, we began rehearsing, and our first show was in September in Buenos Aires. From there, we played in all the places we had the opportunity to in the Capital and Greater Buenos Aires, both in the underground scene and as the opening act for some foreign bands like SKULL FIST, EVIL INVADERS, and RIOT. In 2014, we started recording our first album, and at that time, Cristian left the band for personal reasons. In 2015, after finishing the recording, Javier Fernandez Silva joined on bass. With him, we presented the album and played for the first time in Uruguay (thanks to Gastón Ríos and NUESTRO SENTIR FANZINE), all the while starting to compose new songs. In 2018, we had the opportunity to perform two shows in Brazil with our brothers from METALURIA, one in Foz de Iguazu and another in Londrina, as part of the OPEN THE ROAD festival that brought together bands from all over South America. We also participated in some compilations, such as HEAVY METAL CULTO DE HONOR released by METALIZA ZINE and the NUEVA OLA DE HEAVY METAL ARGENTINO released by ENTERRADO VIVO. In 2019, we started recording our second album, but it was interrupted by the pandemic, during which the band was on hold. At that time, Javier also decided to leave the band to focus on other musical projects. In 2021, we resumed and completed the recording, and we started looking for a bassist. Fortunately, Mariano came forward, and we immediately connected, working on the presentation of the second album. Currently, we are working on the material for what will be our third album.
What material do you have released and in what formats? Can you tell us about these productions, and how can they be obtained or heard?
Jorge San Román: We have released 2 CDs, Interceptor in 2015 and Hagakure in 2022. The first one was recorded La Nave de Oseberg, and the second one at La Válvula studios and our own studio. They can be obtained through the band and our label, Pacheco Records.
Thor: Many of the vocals for the second album were also recorded at Lobo Heimdall Studio, and the final mix and master were done at Vinter Studio.; Additionally, the albums can be listened to on all digital platforms.
Interceptor sound is related to the old traditional Heavy Metal sound. How do you view this movement in Argentina today?
Jorge San Román: We see it in a good moment with a large number of bands in the scene and a lot of camaraderie among them.
Thor: There are many new young bands that sound very good and bring a renewed energy, in addition to the bands that have been around for a few years and are already well-established, sounding better and better.
How is the songwriting process for your songs? What are your musical influences? Which national and international bands have influenced Interceptor history? Do you aim for your songs to fit into a single genre, or do you prefer them to flow naturally in the creative process?
Jorge San Román: Usually, both Johann and I bring the ideas to the rehearsal room to start practicing them. Thor often adds his touch to the vocal melodies and lyrics. The bands that influenced us include Running Wild, Manowar, Grave Digger, Omen, and Manilla Road from the international scene. In the Argentine bands, I think Tiwar and Cassis are the main influences. In my case, I prefer the songs to have a consistent musical and lyrical theme.
Speaking of lyrics, fantasy literature and cinema are significant influences for you. What books and movies can you mention as references? What do these works mean to you? Is there room in Interceptor for themes of a social, political, or societal nature?
Jorge San Román: My main influences today are the comics written by Robin Wood, “Berserk”, and The Dark Tower. I’m also reading a lot of manga, but they dont always reflect in Interceptor lyrics. Literature has a significant influence because, beyond fantasy, some works show the overcoming of individuals in adversity. Regarding lyrics with social themes, I dont believes so because there are many bands that do it better than us, and, personally, Ive never written any social-themed lyrics that I thought were very good.
What do you think of parody bands like Asspera or Nanowar of Steel? What do you think of the humorous tone of their proposals?
Jorge San Román: Im not interested; I find them silly, and they don’t even have good humor.
We know the difficulties of everyday life that seem to have no imminent solution in Argentina. In this context, what is it like to have a band with your theme and sound in this\ country? What does the underground scene mean to Interceptor?
Jorge San Román: In Heavy Metal, you always have to fight. Although now we often organize shows with a group of bands and labels, it’s never easy for Heavy Metal. The underground means being able to do what I want without answering to anyone.
Thor: The underground is where the true spirit of Heavy Metal lives. Autonomy and freedom to do what you want, out of love for the music and a belief in yourself. Many confuse underground with low quality, poor sound, bad organization, and so on, but that not the case. The underground is about self-management and not having to suck up to anyone to do what you want,
regardless of the result.
Do you believe there is still room for innovation and originality within Metal, or has everything already been said and done?
Jorge San Román: I believe that the good innovations have already been made. What’s happening now is thematic bands, like Sabaton and their focus on war, Amon Amarth and the Vikings, and things like that.
Future plans for the band?
Jorge San Román: To record the third album and play as much as possible.

Primero que nada, saludarte y darte la bienvenida a “Acier Doux MetalZine”. Me gustaría que presentes a la banda, una pequeña reseña de su biografía. El porqué de su nombre y como es su formación actualmente.
Thor: Muchas gracias por la bienvenida y el espacio en tu fanzine. La banda actualmente está conformada por Jorge San Román y Johann Sebastián Interceptor en guitarras, Sebastián Doldán en batería, Mariano Ramírez en bajo y Luis Thor en la voz. El nombre de la banda viene del coche de MAD MAX “el último de los V8 INTERCEPTORS”. A todos nos gusta mucho esa saga de películas y pensamos que el nombre era el apropiado para nuestra propuesta. La banda se gestó a fines de 2011, que Jorge me propuso armar un grupo de Heavy Metal épico en la línea de la US Metal. Johann se sumó enseguida así como el primer bajista, Cristian Magarzo, que en ese momento tocaba con Jorge en TEMPANO y con quien Johann y yo habíamos tocado en una banda anterior (QUEMANDO CROMO). En 2012 comenzamos a ensayar y el primer show lo realizamos en Septiembre en Buenos Aires. A partir de ahí fuimos tocando en todos los lugares que tuvimos oportunidad en Capital y Gran Buenos Aires tanto en el circuito under como teloneando algunas bandas de afuera como son SKULL FIST, EVIL INVADERS o RIOT. En 2014 comenzamos a grabar nuestro primer disco, en ese momento Cristian deja la banda por temas personales. Ya en 2015 finalizada la grabación se une en el bajo Javier Fernandez Silva. Con el realizamos la presentación del disco, fuimos a tocar por primera vez a Uruguay (de la mano de Gastón Ríos y NUESTRO SENTIR
FANZINE) al mismo tiempo que empezamos a componer nuevos temas. En 2018 tuvimos la oportunidad de hacer dos fechas en Brasil con nuestros hermanos de METALURIA, una en Foz de Iguazu y otra en Londrina, como parte del festival OPEN THE ROAD que convocó a bandas de toda Sudamérica. También participamos en algunos compilados como el “HEAVY METAL CULTO DE HONOR” editado por METALIZA ZINE y la “NUEVA OLA DE HEAVY METAL ARGENTINO” editado por ENTERRADO VIVO. En 2019 comenzamos a grabar el segundo disco, pero se vio interrumpido por la pandemia, durante la cual la banda estuvo parada. En ese momento Javier también decide dejar la banda para poder enfocarse en otros proyectos musicales. En 2021 retomamos y finalizamos la grabación y comenzamos a buscar bajista. Por suerte se presentó Mariano con quien congeniamos inmediatamente y nos pusimos de lleno a trabajar en la presentación del segundo disco. Actualmente estamos trabajando en el material de lo que será nuestro tercer álbum.
¿Qué material tienen editado y en que formatos? ¿Qué nos pueden contar de estas producciones? ¿Cómo se puede conseguir o escuchar?
Jorge San Román: Tenemos editados 2 CDs, Interceptor de 2015 y Hagakure de 2022. El primero lo grabamos en “La Nave de Oseberg” y el segundo en estudios “La Válvula” y estudio propio. Se pueden conseguir a través de la banda y nuestro sello Pacheco Records.
Thor: Muchas de las voces del segundo disco también fueron grabadas en “Lobo Heimdall Studio” y la mezcla y máster final fue realizada en “Vinter Studio”. Además agregar que los discos se pueden escuchar en todas las plataformas digitales.
El sonido de Interceptor está emparentado con el viejo sonido tradicional de Heavy Metal ¿Cómo ven dicho movimiento en la actualidad en la Argentina?
Jorge San Román: Lo vemos en un buen momento con una gran cantidad de bandas en la escena y mucha camaradería entre las mismas
Thor: Hay muchas nuevas bandas jóvenes que suenan muy bien y traen una energía renovada, además de las bandas que ya tienen unos cuantos años y están ya consolidadas, sonando también cada vez mejor
¿Cómo es el proceso de composición de las canciones? ¿Cuáles son sus influencias musicales? ¿Qué bandas tanto nacionales como mundiales han marcado la historia de Interceptor? ¿Buscan que sus canciones se enmarquen dentro de un solo género o prefieren que fluyan naturalmente en la creación?
Jorge San Román: Generalmente tanto Johann como yo llevamos la idea a la sala para empezar a practicarlas, Thor le suele dar su toque en las melodías vocales y las letras. Las bandas que nos marcaron fueron Running Wild, Manowar, Grave Digger, Omen y Manilla Road en las internacionales. En las bandas argentinas creo que Tiwar y Cassis son las influencias principales. Preferimos al menos en mi caso que las canciones tengan una línea tanto en lo musical como en lo lirico.
Hablando de letras, la literatura fantástica y el cine son una gran influencia para ustedes ¿Qué libros y películas podrían nombrar como referencia? ¿Qué significado tienen estas obras para ustedes? ¿Hay cabida en Interceptor temáticas de corte social, político o de problemas de la sociedad?
Jorge San Román: Mis influencias principales hoy son: Las historietas que escribió Robin Wood, Berserk, la Torre Oscura… También estoy leyendo mucho manga pero no siempre se reflejan en las letras de INTERCEPTOR. La literatura tiene mucha influencia porque más allá de la fantasía en algunas muestras la superación de las personas ante la adversidad. En cuanto a letras de temática social, no creo porque me parece que hay muchas bandas que lo hacen mejor que nosotros y particularmente a mí nunca me salió ninguna letra en corte social que fuera muy buena.
Según su perspectiva y lo que ven ¿Ha evolucionado ideológicamente el movimiento o sigue enraizado en dogmas y pensamientos del siglo pasado?
Jorge San Román: Creo que la evolución del género es en el comportamiento de la gente en los recitales más que nada ya que antes eran más problemáticos y ahora la gente está mucho más tranquila.
¿Qué piensan de las bandas parodias tipo Asspera o Nanowar of Steel? ¿Qué piensan del tono “humorístico” de sus propuestas?
Jorge San Román: No me interesan, me parecen una estupidez y ni siquiera tienen buen humor.
Sabemos las dificultades de la vida cotidiana y que parecen no encontrar una solución próximaen Argentina, en este contexto ¿Cómo es tener una banda de su temática y sonido en este país? ¿Qué significa el underground para Interceptor?
Jorge San Román: En el Heavy Metal siempre la tenés que pelear, si bien ahora con un grupo de bandas y sellos solemos armar fechas, nunca es fácil para el Heavy Metal El underground significa poder hacer lo que quiero sin rendirle cuentas a nadie.
Thor: El under es donde vive el verdadero espíritu del Heavy Metal. La autonomía y libertad para hacer lo que uno quiere, por amor a la música y apostando por uno mismo. Muchos confunden “under” con mala calidad, mal sonido, mala organización y nada que ver. El under es autogestión y no tener que chuparle el culo a nadie para hacer lo que uno quiere, sea cual sea el resultado.
¿Creen que todavía hay espacio para innovar y ser originales dentro del Metal o ya se ha dicho y hecho todo?
Jorge San Román: Creo que lo bueno a nivel innovación ya se hizo…. Lo que se hace ahora son bandas temáticas Sabaton y la guerra…amon amarth y los vikingos cosas así.
Planes futuros para la banda.
Jorge San Román: Grabar el 3er disco y tocar todo lo posible.
