First of all, greetings and welcome to Acier Doux MetalZine. I would like you to introduce the band, give a brief overview of its biography, explain the meaning behind its name, and tell us about its current lineup.
Good afternoon/evening/morning to those reading this interview, here’s Elias AsfiXiados, the founding guitarist. Presenting the band in its current lineup: Hernán Davey (Lead Vocals) /Elias AsfiXiados (Guitar)/ Facundo Báez (Guitar)/ Tobo (Bass)/ Tutún (Drums) this lineup has been performing together for a short time now. The latest addition was “Tutun,” who is also the drummer for Morbum/Calavera/Vestia, and we had played two shows with him before, but it wasn’t until early September that we officially introduced him as the permanent drummer in Chaco. We started in 2017 (on August 19th). Initially, the lineup was completely different. In early 2018, Facundo joined the band as the second member who has been with us the longest over the years, despite having spent some time away. At the beginning of 2019, we had a more significant lineup with Ivan Lopez (currently the guitarist for Personalidad Adictiva Punk), who was our drummer at the time, and another bassist with whom I composed the band’s first original songs (Policía Bastardo – Sistema Democrático – Argentina Militarizada, etc.). With this lineup, we recorded the first demo in May of that year, but for some reason, it ended up archived somewhere. It wasn’t until mid-2020, after only recovering the drum tracks, that I took on the task of completing the demo by recording the bass, both guitars, and vocals, and it became “Brutalidad Estatal,” an EP. After going through various lineups, in 2022, we recorded our first full-length material, “Visiones de la ultraviolencia,” which introduced Hernán on vocals and featured Facundo recording with the band for the first time. The drums on this album were handled by Michay, who was our drummer at the time, and it was finally released in February 2023. In June 2023, we released another EP titled “Pestilente Corrosión,” which featured 4 new songs and a re-recording of “Revolución,” a track from Brutalidad. On this EP, we showcased a darker Thrash sound with clear influences from Black Thrash and experimented with tempo changes that we hadn’t explored until then.
We call ourselves AsfiXiados because we live in an ultraviolent world and society, with a lot of mental oppression, and those who dare to kick against these barriers are always labeled as crazy or insane. We feel violated and suffocated in such a reality, but through our music, we encourage an endless fight against a system that imposes and belittles the mental and physical health of those living within it.
What material do you have released, and in what formats? How can people access or listen to it?
All our material is primarily available on YouTube, on our channel “AsfiXiados.” Additionally, our first two studio materials were released on CD and cassette through the labels “Argentina Thrash Metal” and “Enterrado Vivo Fanzine”. However, there are no more copies of these available for the time being. “Pestilente Corrosión” has not been released in any format yet.
AsfiXiados’ sound is related to elements of Thrash, Hardcore, and Old School Punk. How do you see these movements in the present day?
At least in our country, I see Thrash Metal on the rise with new bands emerging strongly influenced by the old school. For a long time, I saw bands playing Groove or similar styles labeling themselves as “Thrash,” and even worse, there were ignorant people endorsing that as Thrash Metal. Many bands are now positioning themselves and becoming more professional, which is a good thing.
As for Punk, I honestly see it more dead than ever, and I don’t mean that I dislike it. However, it has lost the little ideological strength it once had here because I increasingly see more mediocrity disguised as punk, singing about nonsense without a real sense of struggle or interest in changing anything. There’s a lot of imitation of “Ricky Espinosa,” and it’s mediocre and second-rate, which doesn’t appeal to me much.
What is the songwriting process like for AsfiXiados? What are your lyrical and musical influences? Do you aim to fit your songs within a single genre, or do you prefer them to naturally evolve during creation?
I always compose the songs myself under the musical influence of old-school metal and punk bands like Sarcófago, Anti Cimex, GBH, Discharge, Acutor, etc., etc. However, lyrically, I draw inspiration from bands like Los Muertos de Cristo and V8. I always aim to make the lyrics direct and clear so that the message is easily understood.
Regarding genre, we don’t limit ourselves to a single genre; instead, we prefer to let the music flow naturally during the creative process.
Speaking of lyrics, most of them have a social theme and are in Spanish. What are your thoughts on lyrics that focus on romantic love, fantasy of dragons and castles, or lyrics about alcohol, parties, etc.? Would these themes have a place within AsfiXiados? Would you consider singing songs in English or other languages in the future?
I don’t really resonate with those themes. I don’t have anything against those who write lyrics about them, but I don’t find them particularly relevant. I think the only exception is alcohol because in “ThrashPunk,” we make references to it as well. We have some blasphemous themes to give our music an atmosphere of darkness and violence, in addition to using it as a response to our rejection of Christianity. However, when it comes to alcohol in lyrics, it’s only something that’s connected to our lives in the underground scene and is also widely shared among the people in it.
That being said, I don’t want to suggest that we would be capable of creating an entire discography based on this theme. There are already many bands that only sing about that and the party scene, always portraying metal as a celebration and such. I think its okay to celebrate certain occasions, but when they talk about the same thing all the time, it can become tiresome. It’s as if they don’t have anything more relevant to say because they either don’t see other realities or only focus on that one aspect.
From your perspective and what you’ve observed, has the ideology within the movement evolved, or is it still rooted in dogmas and thoughts from the last century?
I believe that this is the moment when we need to commit ourselves even more to our ideology and our message. Nowadays, I see many “metalheads” who claim to be libertarians, but coincidentally, they are often privileged individuals who never understood this music as something that makes you think and provides ideas. What’s even more surprising is to see people of our generation falling for this political discourse of “freedom.” I can see how, over the years, the younger generation has somewhat lost touch with the concept of a real struggle, despite listening to bands like V8 sing “…I find my brothers far from understanding that…”
This is the moment when those of us who are part of the bands in the current significant underground scene, such as in Argentina, need to start raising awareness and speaking up clearly. We are going to do it, and I hope that other punk and metal bands will understand it the same way. If they think this is just music, they haven’t understood anything.
What are your thoughts on parody bands like Asspera or Nanowar of Steel? What do you think of the “humorous” tone of their music?
I consider them to be completely irrelevant and they greatly hinder anything meaningful within the metal genre, the struggle, or taking music seriously in general. I believe they take up space that could be better occupied by other bands because some people find it amusing to be “cancelable” or something like that. I don’t know, but I think they serve no real purpose. However, I find bands like “Raza 82” (Editor’s note: A nationalist Argentine band) even worse, as they turn patriotism into a circus and showbiz, making them more of a target for ridicule by nature than at least the first mentioned bands, which aim for humor. I don’t know anyone who can take such bands seriously because the instinctive reaction of rejection and mockery they generate is quite justified.
What is it like to have a band with your sound in Argentina, especially not being from a major city in the country? What does the underground scene mean to AsfiXiados?
For us, maintaining our sound is a principle we cannot betray. We believe in the evolution of our music in terms of composition, as we have been doing since “Pestilente Corrosión,” but we never stray from the old school of metal and punk. We always strive to be true to ourselves so that what we project is sincere to those who listen.
The underground scene, for us, represents the clearest and greatest opportunity to showcase what we think and what we want to express through our music. There are many different underground scenes, and they vary quite a bit. In some places, it’s a den of rats and vipers (referring to cops and libertarians), while in others, it’s a source of unity and struggle. We align ourselves with the people who see it in the latter way, as a platform for unity and resistance.
Do you believe there is still room for innovation and originality within Metal, or has everything already been said and done?
Well, that’s a tricky question. There are many people trying to innovate and creating things that are simply awful just to seek attention, like mixing trap with metal, and so on. At least within the subgenre we belong to, I think many bands have pushed it to different extremes, making them the biggest metal references we could have, from Sarcófago to Judas Priest. The list of bands that have set a high standard is quite extensive. I’m not closing the door to the possibility that someone could innovate in this genre in the future, but for now, I think everything has been done. It would be interesting to see if there’s a positive evolution in that regard and not just an attempt to sound slower and more boring.
Future plans for the band.
Right now, we’re working remotely to create new studio material, a second full-length album titled “MUERTE A TODO” (Death to Everything). This album will serve as a platform for us to express our strong rejection of the liberal movement that has gained momentum in recent years, as well as our criticism of Christianity, the police forces, and people who remain passive and don’t fight for anything. However, we also leave room to write about other topics.
Final farewell. Are there any other regional bands you would recommend?
From the region, I can recommend many great bands that not only have excellent compositions but also have confrontational lyrics: Vapuleador/ Ultimo Vomito/ AntiCorrosivo/Decadencia Juvenil/Althar/ Madre Noche.

Primero que nada, saludarte y darte la bienvenida a Acier Doux MetalZine. Me gustaría que presentes a la banda, una pequeña reseña de su biografía. El porqué de su nombre y como es su formación actualmente.
Buenas tardes/noches/días a quienes estén leyendo esta entrevista, acá Elias Asfixiados guitarrista fundador. Presentando a la banda en su formación actual estamos: Hernán Davey (Voz principal) /Elias Asfixiados (Guitarra)/ Facundo Báez (Guitarra)/ Tobo (Bajo)/ Tutun (Batería)
Esta formación es la que está tocando actualmente desde hace poco tiempo. La última incorporación fue “Tuntún” que también es baterista de Morbum/Calavera/Vestia y con quien ya habíamos dado dos shows antes, pero recién a principio de septiembre lo presentamos en Chaco como el miembro definitivo en la batería.
Comenzamos en 2017 (un 19 de agosto) al comienzo la formación fue completamente distinta, a comienzos de 2018 se integra Facundo a la banda siendo el segundo miembro de la banda que más estuvo en estos años a pesar de que tuvo un tiempo lejos. A comienzos de 2019 tuvimos una formación más significativa con Ivan Lopez (Actual guitarrista de Personalidad Adictiva Punk) que en su momento era nuestro baterista y con otro bajista con quienes compuse los primeros temas propios de la banda (Policía Bastardo – Sistema Democrático – Argentina Militarizada, etc.), con esta formación grabamos el primer Demo en mayo de ese año, pero por algún motivo eso quedó archivado en algún lado. Recién a mediados del 2020 después de recuperar nada más las pistas de batería me di la tarea de terminar el Demo grabando el bajo, las dos violas y la voz y que pasó a ser “Brutalidad Estatal” un E.P.
Después de otras diversas formaciones en 2022 grabamos nuestro primer material de larga duración “Visiones de la ultraviolencia” que incorporo a Hernán en la Voz y a Facundo grabando por primera vez con la banda. En este disco la batería estuvo a cargo de Michay quien en ese momento era nuestro baterista, finalmente se publicó en febrero del 2023.
En Junio del 2023 sacamos otro E.P este fue “Pestilente Corrosión” el cual presentaba 4 temas nuevos y una regrabación de “Revolución” tema que sale en Brutalidad, en este EP mostramos un Thrash más oscuro con influencias claras del Black Thrash y otros cambios de tiempo que no habíamos experimentado hasta ese momento.
Nos llamamos Asfixiados porque vivimos en un mundo y una sociedad ultraviolenta, mucha opresión mental y a quienes se animan a patear contra estas barreras siempre son tachados de locos o dementes, nos sentimos violentados y asfixiados en una realidad así, pero con nuestra música alentamos a una lucha interminable contra un sistema que impone y ningunea la salud mental y física de quienes vivimos dentro de la misma.
¿Qué material tienen editado y en que formatos? ¿Cómo se puede conseguir o escuchar?
Todo nuestro material para escuchar en primera instancia se encuentra en YouTube, en nuestro canal “AsfiXiados” además de que nuestros dos primeros materiales de estudio fueron publicados en Cd y Casete a cargo de los sellos: Argentina Thrash Metal y Enterrado Vivo Fanzine. Mas copias de las mismas ya no se consiguen por ahora.
Pestilente Corrosion aún no salió en ningún formato.
El sonido de Asfixiados está emparentado con elementos de Thrash, Hardcore y el punk Old School ¿Cómo ven dichos movimientos en la actualidad?
Por lo menos en nuestro pais veo como el Thrash Metal se está alzando con bandas nuevas que aparecen y están fuertemente influenciados por la vieja escuela, por mucho tiempo vi bandas de Groove o cosas parecidas llamarse a sí mismos “Thrash” y peor aún la gente ignorante que avalaba eso como thrash metal. Se encuentran muchas bandas que se están posicionando y profesionalizando cada vez más y eso está bueno.
El punk ahora realmente lo veo más muerto que nunca, no me refiero a que no me guste, pero perdió la poca fuerza ideológica que alguna vez tuvo acá porque cada vez veo que hay más mediocres disfrazados de punk cantando sobre pelotudeces y que no tienen una idea realmente de lucha o interés en cambiar algo, mucha copia a “Ricky Espinosa” mediocre y a medio pelo, no me estaría cabiendo mucho.
¿Cómo es el proceso de composición de las canciones? ¿Cuáles son sus influencias tanto liricas como musicales? ¿Buscan que sus canciones se enmarquen dentro de un solo género o prefieren que fluyan naturalmente en la creación?
Siempre compongo yo los temas bajo la influencia musical de las bandas de la vieja escuela del metal y el punk, Sarcófago/ Anti cimex/ GBH/ Discharge/ Acutor etc., etc., pero, líricamente me inspiro por las letras de bandas como Los Muertos de Cristo y V8. Siempre busco hacerlo directo y claro para que el mensaje se entienda.
Hablando de las letras, son la mayoría de corte social y en castellano ¿Qué piensan de las letras que hablen de amor romántico, fantasía de dragones y castillos, o letras que hablen de alcohol, fiestas, etc.? ¿Tendrían cabida estas temáticas dentro de Asfixiados? ¿Cantarían canciones en inglés u otros idiomas en el futuro?
No me caben realmente, no tengo nada en contra de quienes las hacen, pero no me parecen realmente relevantes. Creo que la única excepción es el alcohol porque en “ThrashPunk” hacemos referencia a eso también, tenemos algunos temas blasfemos para darle esa ambientación de oscuridad y violencia a nuestra música además de ser algo que lo hacemos como respuesta al rechazo que nos produce el cristianismo. Mas, volviendo a lo del alcohol en las letras solamente es algo que se liga a nuestras vidas en el ambiente under y que también se comparte mucho entre la gente de la misma. Respondiendo a eso no quiero decir que seriamos capaces de hacer una discografía entera en base a eso, ya hay muchas bandas que solamente hablan de eso y de la joda viendo siempre al metal como una fiesta y todo eso, está bien creo que también es motivo de festejo las fechas, pero cuando todo el tiempo hablan de eso mismo solo demuestran creo yo que no tienen otra cosa más relevante que hablar y termina siendo cansador realmente, como si no tuvieran otra cosa mejor que decir porque no ven otras realidades o solamente piensan en eso solo.
Según su perspectiva y lo que ven ¿Ha evolucionado ideológicamente el movimiento o sigue enraizado en dogmas y pensamientos del siglo pasado?
Creo que este es el momento en el que más hay que comprometernos con nuestra ideología y nuestro mensaje, a día de hoy veo muchos “metaleros” libertarios que casualmente siempre son unos chetos que nunca entendieron esta música como algo que te haga pensar y dar una idea, pero más me choca ver gente contemporánea a nosotros que se comen ese discurso político de “libertad” y veo como se debilito ciertamente en los jóvenes lo que pueda significar una lucha después de años y años de escuchar bandas como V8 cantar “…me encuentro a mis hermanos lejos de entender que…” Es este el momento en el que nosotros, quienes conformamos las bandas en la actualidad de una movida under significativa, como la es la de Argentina, tenemos que comenzar a despertar consciencia y decir las cosas claras. Nosotros vamos a hacerlo y espero que las demás bandas de punk y metal también lo entiendan así, si creen que esto solamente es música, no entendieron nada.
¿Qué piensan de las bandas parodias tipo Asspera o Nanowar of Steel? ¿Qué piensan del tono “humorístico” de sus propuestas?
Que son totalmente irrelevantes y entorpecen enormemente todo lo que pueda significar el metal, la lucha o en si tomarse con seriedad la música, creo que sacan lugar a otras bandas que podrían posicionarse mejor porque la gente que cree que es gracioso mostrarse “cancelables” o algo así. No sé, me parecen que no sirven para nada, pero más allá de eso me parecen peores las bandas como “Raza 82” (N. del R.: Banda nacionalista Argentina) que hacen del patriotismo un circo y farándula llevándolos más al descanso por naturaleza que al menos las primeras bandas mencionadas buscan eso. Creo que no conozco a nadie que se pueda tomar enserio ese tipo de bandas porque el instinto de rechazo y burla que levantan se justifica bastante.
¿Cómo es tener una banda con su sonido en Argentina y sobretodo no siendo de una ciudad grande del país? ¿Qué significa el underground para Asfixiados?
Para nosotros mantener nuestro sonido se trata de un principio que no podemos traicionar, creemos en la evolución de nuestra música en motivos de composición como lo venimos haciendo desde pestilente corrosión pero jamás saliendo de la vieja escuela del metal y punk y siendo siempre sinceros con nosotros mismos para que lo que proyectemos sea sincero para quien lo escuche. Para nosotros el underground es la oportunidad más clara y grande a mostrar lo que pensamos y lo que queremos plasmar en nuestra música, hay muchas movidas y se caracterizan bastante, en algunos lados es un nido de ratas y víboras (Ratis y libertarios) y en otros es un motivo de unión y lucha, nosotros nos quedamos con la gente que lo ve como lo dije en la última manera.
¿Creen que todavía hay espacio para innovar y ser originales dentro del Metal o ya se ha dicho y hecho todo?
Bueno es una pregunta complicada, hay mucha gente intentando innovar y creando cosas horribles solo para buscar atención, funcionan trap con metal y blablablá, al menos dentro de lo que nosotros tocamos creo que ya pasaron muchas bandas que lo llevaron a distintos extremos que los hicieron ser los referentes del metal más grandes que pudimos tener, desde sarcófago a Judas Priest la lista de bandas que dejan un poco difícil de superar la vara es bastante amplia, no me cierro a la posibilidad de que alguien pueda innovar en eso quizás, pero por ahora creo que ya está todo hecho, sería interesante ver si eso evoluciona de alguna manera positiva y no para sonar más lento y aburrido.
Planes futuros para la banda.
Por ahora estamos trabajando a la distancia para crear un nuevo material de estudio, un segundo larga duración el cual va a tener por nombre “MUERTE A TODO” un disco donde vamos a dejar plasmado todo nuestro rechazo al movimiento liberal que se ve más fuerte en estos últimos años, el cristianismo, las fuerzas policiales y la gente tibia que no pelea por nada, pero también dejamos margen para escribir sobre otras cosas.
Despedida final ¿Qué otras bandas de la región recomiendan?
De la región puedo recomendar muchas bandas buenas que además de tener excelentes composiciones también tienen letras contestatarias: Vapuleador/ Ultimo Vomito/ AntiCorrosivo/Decadencia Juvenil/Althar/ Madre Noche.
